NBA Fines Raptors GM Masai Ujiri $35,000 for Outburst

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Masai Ujiri's mouth has cost him again. The NBA has fined the Toronto Raptors general manager $35,000 for his expletive over the weekend geared towards Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce. The team was also fined $25,000.

"People want me to say something about Paul Pierce, but we don't give a s--- about it,'" Ujiri told a cheering crowd outside the Air Canada Centre.

Pierce had made disparaging comments about the franchise in an interview with ESPN.

Last season, Ujiri was fined $25,000 before the team's playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets for addressing a crowd using an expletive as well.

"I have the deepest respect for Commissioner [Adam] Silver and the NBA, and while showing passion for our team and fans I will choose my words more carefully in the future so as not to indicate otherwise," Ujiri said.

The Wizards defeated the Raptors in Game 1 of their opening round playoff series.

Wizards Top Raptors 93-86 in OT to Take Game One

Thomas Northcut/Digital Vision(TORONTO) -- Paul Pierce scored five of his 20 points in overtime, Nene had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and the Washington Wizards beat the Toronto Raptors 93-86 on Saturday in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Pierce hit a 3-pointer, his fourth of the game, to begin the extra session, further tormenting a Raptors team he eliminated with Brooklyn in last year's playoffs.  Pierce previously mocked the Raptors this week by saying, "I don't feel they have the 'it' that makes you worried," in an interview with ESPN. That prompted Raptors GM Masai Ujiri to vulgarly respond to Pierce's comments before the game.

Bradley Beal scored 16, while John Wall and Kevin Seraphin each had 10 for the Wizards.

Amir Johnson scored 18 points and DeMar DeRozan had 15 for the Raptors, who have yet to win the opening game of a first-round series in seven postseason appearances.

Toronto hosts Game 2 on Tuesday night.

Charles Oakley: NBA Hard to Watch

Brian A. Westerholt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Charles Oakley was honored by the Raptors on Friday night, but the power forward who also played for Chicago, New York, Washington and Houston, had little good to say about today's NBA.

"Who do I like watching? It's hard to watch," Oakley said. "I don't know, it's just, it's a different game. It's some good games and a lot of bad games. More bad games than good games these days."

Oakley was one of the toughest players in his playing days, but he believes the mentality of players today has changed.

"I don't know what it is. They just roll you out there like a basketball. That's why...you see the same teams in the finals or winning 55 games. Strong teams, strong-minded coach. Just the players, they don't think it, they don't know how to play together," Oakley said. "So that's one of things I see the weakness is: Communication, the guys don't love the game. They play the game, but they don't play with their heart."

The Raptors paid tribute to Oakley Friday night, handing out bobbleheads to the first 5,000 fans. Oakley played 208 games for Toronto between 1998 and 2001.
