#1 Indiana Dumps #14 UNC

Andy Lyons/Getty Images(BLOOMINGTON, Ind.) -- In a marquee early season matchup, the experience won out.

Cody Zeller had 20 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 1 Indiana past No. 14 North Carolina 83-59 at Assembly Hall on Tuesday night.

Victor Oladipo added 19 points for the Hoosiers (7-0), who held North Carolina to 37 percent shooting. "I know people criticize us for our defense, and they say 'If they can't play defense, how good can they really be?' " Oladipo said.

Indiana blew open a competitive game in the second half and outscored the Tar Heels (5-2) 37-22 in the period.

You look down the lineup and Cody Zeller, he's family to begin with, he's really a load to handle, and two other guys that I didn't even hear of when they were in high school, they just kicked our rear ends," Heels coach Roy Williams said.

Dexter Strickland led North Carolina with 14 points.

Roy Williams Has Kidney Surgery

Andy Lyons/Getty Images(CHAPEL HILL, N.C.) -- University of North Carolina men's basketball coach Roy Williams underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove a tumor from his right kidney.

The surgery lasted over three hours at UNC Hospital.  He is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days.

The 62-year-old Williams plans to be on the court when the Tar Heels begin practice next month, although he may need a second surgery to remove a tumor from his left kidney.  If he undergoes the operation next month, he could miss a few practices leading up to the start of the regular season.

Doctors are not sure if the tumor removed was cancerous.  Once they find out, it could determine whether Williams has to have a second surgery.

Coach Williams is entering his 10th season with the Tar Heels basketball program, leading them to NCAA championships in 2005 and 2009. He has experienced only a few medical issues -- vertigo and shoulder surgery -- during his tenure in Chapel Hill.

UNC's Kendall Marshall Fractures Wrist in Win

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(GREENSBORO, N.C.) -- North Carolina may have won the game, but it came with a cost. North Carolina star point guard Kendall Marshall fractured his right wrist during the Tar Heels 87-73 victory over Creighton, in the third round of the NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament.

The injury occurred about half way through the second half when he was fouled by Creighton's Ethan Wragge.

"I kind of got pushed to the ground," Marshall said. "And I guess when I fell, I hurt my funny bone first, and that's what I was most worried about. That's fine. My wrist just got the worst of it."

Marshall stayed in the game and hit one of two free throws before taking a seat at the next timeout. He eventually went back in the game and played almost eight minutes before leaving the game for good.

Their is currently no timetable for his return.

"You just hate it for the kid," UNC coach Roy Williams said. "My gosh...We've handled a little bit of adversity the last two years and I'm just so proud of my group, but he's been a big time basketball player for us."

Marshall averaged 9.7 assists per game during the regular season, good for second in the country.

North Carolina Carolina takes on Ohio Friday.

Florida State Claims First ACC Tournament Title

Thomas Northcut/Digital Vision(ATLANTA) -- The Seventeenth ranked Florida State Seminoles (24-9) secured their first ever Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament title by beating the fourth ranked North Carolina Tar Heels (29-5) 85-82.

UNC trailed by 16-points at the half, but rallied to make it a one point game with 32 seconds left. With five seconds left in the game, Seminoles Senior guard Deividas Dulkys hit two free throws sealing the victory.

"We've worked very hard in the fundamentals offensively and defensively and the guys communicated very well," Seminoles head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "North Carolina has a great basketball team. We expected them to make runs. I just wanted us to be mature enough to fight off some of those types of adversity. We've dealt with so much adversity that we don't get rattled at all."

The win helped FSU nab a three seed in the Men's NCAA Tournament, where it will take on Saint Bonaventure Friday.
