Tigers SS Jose Iglesias Officially Ruled Out for Season

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(DETROIT) -- The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday that shortstop Jose Iglesias is officially out for the season.

Iglesias, 24, has yet to play in 2014 due to stress fractures in both legs.

The Tigers recalled shortstop Eugenio Suarez from Triple-A Toledo Wednesday and designated infielder Danny Worth for assignment.

"He continues to make progress, the doctor's happy with the progress he made, but at this point, he basically has been ruled out for the season," Tigers general managers Dave Dombrowski said. "We had always thought that, but we had maintained maybe a little bit of hope there."

Iglesias played in 109 games with Boston and Detroit last season, hitting .303 with three home runs and 39 runs scored.
