Timberwolves Sign Josh Howard

Brian A. Westerholt/Getty Images(MINNEAPOLIS) -- Josh Howard and the Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum Thursday, pending a physical.

"He's a versatile player. He's long. He's a good defender," Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman said. "He should fit in and help us."

The 32-year-old Howard was signed in response to the recent injury to Chase Budinger that will sideline him three to four months after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

The Timberwolves have had a case of the injury bug this season. They are also without Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, JJ Barea and Brandon Roy.

The one time All-Star, Howard has played nine NBA seasons with the Jazz, Wizards and Mavericks. He has averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and one steal a game for his career.

Minnesota hopes to have Howard in the lineup Friday night, when it hosts Golden State.
