Wawrinka Ousts Djokovic from Australian Open

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(MELBOURNE, Australia) -- Stanislas Wawrinka ousted three-time defending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in five sets in the Men’s quarterfinals on Tuesday night, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 9-7.

Wawrinka had lost 14 consecutive matches to Djokovic. The pair met in the fourth-round of last year's event, with Djokovic outlasting Wawrinka in the final set, 12-10. That battle went 5 hours and 2 minutes, which was the longest Grand Slam match of the season.

Before Tuesday night’s loss, Djokovic hadn’t lost a match at the Australian Open since 2010, when he was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

As for Wawrinka, his next match is a semifinal showdown against Tomas Berdych.
