Yankees Reliever David Robertson Injures Foot After Falling Down Stairs

Patrick McDermott/Getty Images(DUNEDIN, Fla.) -- This isn't the way New York Yankees relief pitcher David Robertson hoped to follow his breakout 2011 season. Robertson injured his right foot after falling down a flight of stairs.

While moving some boxes down a flight of stairs at his home, Robertson "missed a step," which caused the injury. Robertson underwent a weight-bearing X-ray and a CAT-scan on his foot after suffering the injury. Currently, Robertson is in a walking boot. While initially there wasn't much of a concern over Robertson's injury, there has been growing concern over just how serious of an injury he suffered.

"It's just a little sore right now," Robertson said. "I actually just slipped. I misjudged a step and rolled over it a little bit. Clumsy."

"I'm not so sure he's going to miss enough time that we won't have him on Opening Day," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Until we get the test results we're not going to know. But I wasn't excited about the way he walked out today."

Robertson was perhaps the best relief pitcher on the Yankees not named Mariano Rivera. He went 4-1 with a 1.08 ERA.
