Yankees Reward Outfielder Brett Gardner with Four-Year Extension

Robert Rogers/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New York Yankees have come to terms on a four-year extension with outfielder Brett Gardner for $52 million.

His new deal starts with the 2015 season, keeping Gardner in Yankee pinstripes through the 2018 season. The deal also has a $12.5 million option for the 2019 season.

The 30-year-old Gardner has been with the Yankees during his entire six-year Major League career.

Since his debut back in 2008, Gardner has been one of the better defensive outfielders in the American League. With the signing of centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, Gardner will make the transition to left field this season.

The Yankees have spent nearly $500 million this off-season on free agents Brian McCann, Masahiro Tanaka, Carlos Beltran, and Ellsbury.
