Former Business Owner Arrested for Tax Evasion, Theft

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) -- The former owner of a Memphis business has been arrested and charged with tax evasion and theft of property over $10,000, officials announced Thursday.

The Tennessee Department of Revenue said Musbah Alfuqaha, 63, was taken into custody on Monday. Alfuqaha is the former owner of KW Beer, Food, and Tobacco.

"This investigation serves as a reminder that retailers are not entitled to use or keep sales tax monies," Revenue Commissioner Richard Roberts said in a statement. "Sales tax revenues collected by retailers are property of our state and local governments and must be remitted to the state as required by law."
