Arizona State Legislature Opens, But with Somber Tone

(PHOENIX) -- Following Saturday's shooting in Tucson that killed six and injured 14, including United States Representative Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Legislature began the 2011 session on Monday. Normally a day reserved for celebratory introductions and speeches, the day began with a moment of silence just a few minutes after noon.

Governor Jan Brewer planned on revising her address to the legislature to focus less on policy and budget issues, and more on the recent tragedy that shook Arizona. Brewer's budget is set to be released on Friday.

Jared Lee Loughner, the accused shooter from Saturday's incidents, was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.

Rep. Giffords Husband Offers Thanks, Asks for Prayers

(TUCSON, Ariz.) -- Mark Kelly, the husband of injured Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, thanked people on Monday across the country for their support.

"I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Arizona and this great nation for their unbelievable outpouring of support. Gabby was doing what she loved most -- hearing from her constituents -- when this tragedy occurred. Serving Southern Arizonans is her passion, and nothing makes her more proud than representing them in Congress," Kelly said in a statement.

Kelly thanked the first responders and people at the site of the shooting for helping to save his wife's life.

"Many of you have offered help. There is little that we can do but pray for those who are struggling," Kelly said.

Giffords Shooting: Police End Search for Possible Accomplice

Photo Courtesy - Pima County Sheriff's Department(TUCSON, Ariz.) -- The person of interest sought for questioning in the shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is a cab driver who says he drove suspect Jared Lee Loughner to the site, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities released a photo of a middle-aged white male possibly connected with the suspect in Saturday's mass shooting that killed six people, wounded 14 others and left an Arizona congresswoman in critical condition at a town hall event in Tucson, Ariz.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the man drove Loughner to the Safeway, and then followed him inside to question him about payment.

At a press conference in Tucson Sunday, FBI Director Robert Mueller said the individual was being sought for questioning because he was seen entering a grocery store near the event with Loughner, who has been arrested for the shooting of Rep. Giffords and 19 others, but authorities did not believe that the second individual was also a shooter.
