Child Molester Gets 25 Years Behind Bars

(ALEXANDRIA, Va.) -- Convicted child molester Kevin Ricks -- a man U.S. District Judge James Cacheris referred to as "every parent's worst nightmare"-- was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday.

Ricks, 51, was handed down the punishment -- which includes a lifetime of supervised release -- after agreeing to plead guilty to six counts of producing child pornography and an additional count of possessing it. Authorities allege Ricks' crimes date back 17 years, with victims all over the U.S. and well as internationally.

Investigators say Ricks carried out sexual abuse crimes by placing himself in positions of authority in his career as a camp counselor, boy scout leader, babysitter, high school teacher, tutor, and foreign exchange host. According to officials, Ricks had victims in Virginia, North Carolina, San Francisco, Nevada, and Japan.

Lawyer Faces 20 Years for Insurance Fraud

(ALEXANDRIA, Va.)  -- On Tuesday, a Maryland lawyer pleaded guilty to insurance fraud in a Virginia court.

Amir Ryan Lahuti, 45, was caught in an FBI investigation that found he had defrauded insurance companies with false or exaggerated claims. Lahuti reportedly partnered with Jason Carle, a chiropractor from Virginia, and the pair allegedly employed recruiters to solicit clients for them. According to the authorities, these accident victims would fake or exaggerate their injuries to collect insurance compensation; Lahuti and Carle reportedly referred clients to each other.

In addition, Carle allegedly assisted Lahuti file a false claim after a bicycle accident in 2009 in which he received $11,000 -- and compensated Carle for helping him. Lahuti faces up to 20 years in prison. His sentencing is in August. Carle, who also pleaded guilty, will be sentenced in July.
