DNA Links Deceased Convicted Rapist to 1987 Rape
(SILVER SPRING, Md.) -- DNA evidence has helped solved a 25-year-old rape case in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police.
Police said convicted rapist William David Trice was, earlier this month, linked to the 1987 rape of a then 20-year-old woman.
The incident happened on May 31, 1987. Police said the victim was asleep at her apartment in the Greencastle Woods neighborhood of Silver Spring, when she awoke to find a man with a knife in her home. The man then threatened her with the knife and raped her.
After reviewing the cold case, it was discovered on July 2, 2012, that DNA evidence collected in the 1987 rape match with Trice's DNA, according to a police news release.
Trice had been convicted for two rapes in Anne Arundel County in 1988, and police said he committed suicide in January 2010.
