DNA Links Texas Prisoner to 2003 Maryland Rape

(SILVER SPRING, Md.) -- A man who has been serving time in a Texas prison has been charged in connection with a rape that took place in 2003 in Silver Spring, Md.

David Martinez is now back in Montgomery County, Md. where he faces charges of rape, sexual offense, assault and kidnapping.

The alleged rape reportedly happened on March 3, 2003, as police said a 23-year-old woman was attacked and raped by a man as she was returning home from work during the early morning hours.

Investigators said they caught a break in the case in July 2011 when through the national DNA database, there was a match in the DNA of Martinez, 30, and DNA collected as part of evidence at the rape scene.
