Maryland Soldier Killed in Combat in Afghanistan

(WASHINGTON) -- A Maryland soldier has been killed while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, officials announced Wednesday.

A news release by the Department of Defense said that Sgt. Julian C. Chase, 22, of Edgewater, Md., died on Monday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Chase was assigned to 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.
