(WASHINGTON) -- A police-involved shooting on Monday night in Southeast Washington, D.C., has left a suspect dead and an officer injured.

The shooting reportedly happened just before 11 p.m. on Sixth Street. Police say they received a report about a man in the area with a gun, and when an officer contacted a suspect matching the description given, police say the suspect opened fire on the officer.

Officials say the officer returned fire, killing the suspect, while the officer had to be treated at an area hospital for a graze wound.
