Afghan President Hamid Karzai's Half Brother Killed in Kandahar

STR/AFP/Getty Images(KABUL, Afghanistan) -- The half brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai was shot and killed at his home in Kandahar on Tuesday, ABC News has learned.

According to officials in Kandahar Province, Ahmed Wali Karzai was gunned down by a guard during a family gathering.  He died from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

Wali Karzai was a controversial figure and considered one of the most powerful men in Afghanistan, with alleged ties to the country's opium trade.  He's also been alleged to have been on the payroll of the CIA.
