Afghan Vice President Marshal Mohammad Qaseem Fahim Dead at 57

BBC News reports that Fahim, one of the country's two vice presidents, died of natural causes. The Afghan government called for three days of mourning.

Fahim was a former warlord, and served as leader of the Northern Alliance after anti-Taliban fighter Ahmed Shah Masood was killed in 2001, BBC News says.

Fahim's death comes before the April presidential elections, in which current President Hamid Karzai cannot run for re-election, as he has already served two terms.
