Al Qaeda Group in Yemen Urges More US Embassy Attacks
Chris Knorr / Design Pics / Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) -- The strongest existing off-shoot of al Qaeda is urging Muslims to step up their attacks on U.S. embassies around the world.
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which is based in Yemen, issued an online message over the weekend exhorting its followers and all Muslims to create more havoc as the result of an anti-Islam movie produced by an Arab Christian living in the U.S.
In its message, AQAP maintained that last week's attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, was the "best example" for others to emulate.
The statement went on to say, "What has happened is a great event, and these efforts should come together in one goal, which is to expel the embassies of America from the lands of the Muslims."
Once protesters gather at American missions around the world, they should "set the fires blazing at these embassies," according to AQAP.
