American Aid to Libyan Rebels Arrives In Benghazi
SAEED KHAN/AFP/Getty Images(BENGHAZI, Libya) -- The first batch of U.S. non-lethal aid to the Libyan opposition known as the Transitional National Council (TNC) arrived in Benghazi on Tuesday. This first shipment consisted of over 10,000 Halal meals, ready to eat. Additional shipments are en route that include medical supplies, uniforms, boots, tents, and personal protective gear.
“We continue to work with the TNC to determine what additional assistance requirements we might be able to support in the coming weeks,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters on Tuesday.
The aid comes from existing Defense Department stock. President Obama has authorized $25 million worth of non-lethal assistance for the TNC.
