Dozens Killed by Bombers Targeting Baghdad Mosque

AHMAD AL-RUBAYE/AFP/Getty Images(BAGHDAD) -- Baghdad was hit hard again by violence Wednesday as insurgents launched a coordinated bomb strike targeting a Shiite mosque.

Iraqi authorities said at least 35 people were killed near the place of worship in the capital's northwestern Kasra district.

Upwards of 60 people were also wounded when a car bomb went off, followed by a suicide bomber detonating explosives as people rushed to help victims of the first blast.

The carnage could have been far worse but a second suicide bomber couldn't carry out his mission.  Police said he was stabbed to death by an angry mob.

No one claimed responsibility for the bombing although suspicion fell on al Qaeda groups and Sunni militants attempting to stir up sectarian unrest.
