Egyptian Court Bans Muslim Brotherhood

Paper Boat Creative/Getty Images(CAIRO) -- An emergency court in Egypt has banned the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and ordered the group's assets frozen. This follows a ruling that had already banned them as an NGO.

The court banned the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood and all the activities that it participates in as well as any institution "derived from, belonging to or receiving financial support from it."

The decision can be appealed, however the verdict will likely be implemented.

The move is a huge step up in the crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood by the ruling military and a throwback to the days of former President Hosni Mubarak and his predecessors when the Brotherhood was outlawed.
