(MOSCOW) -- Alleged National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden has reportedly submitted an application for temporary asylum in Russia, according to a Russian lawyer who met with him on Friday.
The lawyer said Snowden may receive a temporary permit while his application is being considered. That would allow Snowden to finally leave Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport and enter the country.
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Snowden's chances of receiving asylum were unclear. Putin has said before that Snowden can stay but only if he stops harming American interests.
