Mandela's Body to Lie in State for Three Days

Alet Pretorius/Foto24/Gallo Images/Getty Images(PRETORIA, South Africa) -- The week-long memorial to former South African President Nelson Mandela continued on Wednesday as his body was carried through the streets of Pretoria to the nation's main government building.

There, the civil rights leader's body will lie in state until Friday so that South Africans can pay their final respects.

"The remains of our beloved Madiba will lie in state at the seat of government, the union buildings in Pretoria, where he served as the first president," South African President Jacob Zuma said last Friday in an address to the nation.

After three days of lying in state, Mandela will then be taken to his ancestral village of Qunu where, on Sunday, he'll be buried alongside three of his children who are deceased.
