McCain Lambastes Obama's Handling of Egypt, Libya and Syria

Pete Souza / The White House(WASHINGTON) -- Senator John McCain had nothing to nice to say Thursday about President Obama's foreign policy during an interview at The Daily Beast’s Hero Summit.

McCain criticized the decision to cut off some aid to Egypt because of the government crackdown on protesters and members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Arizona Republican said the total aid package should have been suspended following the military coup that ousted President Mohamed Morsi, as dictated by U.S. law.

It's McCain's opinion that Egypt will return to a military dictatorship with General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi at the helm. He predicted "an insurgency in Egypt and terrorism, because they are not able in Egypt today to keep people down."

As for how the Obama administration has dealt with the so-called Arab Spring, McCain accused the president of "leading from behind."  He said the situation in Libya deteriorated badly after the execution of dictator Moammar Gadhafi because the U.S. didn't offer the new government much help.

McCain also criticized the White House for doing little to help legitimate rebel groups trying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

According to the GOP lawmaker, the Free Syrian Army units feel demoralized and abandoned by the U.S., which is emboldening al Qaeda groups on the ground.
