Pakistan Flight Delayed for Pilot's Sandwich Delivery

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- A pilot reportedly delayed a New York-bound flight for more than two hours as he waited for a sandwich delivery.

The Nation reported that the pilot for Pakistan International Airlines insisted that the aircraft wait at the Lahore airport for sandwich delivery from a five-star hotel in the city, even after being told it might take as long as two hours.

Flight 711 was set for an on-time departure at 6:45 from Allama Iqbal International Airport to New York, via Manchester on Dec. 15. When the pilot learned there were no sandwiches on the menu -- only peanuts, chips and biscuits, according to the paper -- he said he "needed sandwiches at any cost."

The pilot's request was sent to the catering office and then to the airline's management office in Karachi. The management "directed the catering department to meet his demand."

According to the paper, the flight finally departed at 9:15 a.m. -- a two-and-a-half hour delay.

Airline spokesman Mashhood Tajwar told The Nation that "management had taken a serious notice of the delay of an international flight. He said investigation had been ordered and action would be taken against those responsible for it."

Multiple attempts to reach the airline by ABC News were not successful.
