Pakistan Region Struck by Second Earthquake This Week

This image shows what appears to be a new island off the coast of Pakistan after the Sept. 24, 2013 earthquake. (Latif Baloch)(ISLAMABAD) -- For the second time this week, the Awaran District in Pakistan was struck by a major earthquake.

The first earthquake on Tuesday killed over 350 people and damaged communications and the latest quake, measured at a 6.8 on the Richter scale, is being called an aftershock, according to BBC News.

Tuesday's tremor registered as a magnitude of 7.7 according to the U.S. Geological Survey and created a new island off the country's coastline.

Accounts of the size and shape of the island vary. Behram Baloch, a resident of the southern port city of Gwadar, describes it as roughly 200 feet long, jutting out from the water roughly a quarter mile from the coastline.
