(BELBEK, Crimea) -- Russian President Vladmir Putin says his country is ready to use all means necessary to protect its people, but he is hoping he won't have to use force in eastern Ukraine.
In a press conference Tuesday, Putin defended Russian intervention in Ukraine's Crimea, calling it a "humanitarian mission." He said Russia has the right to defend its citizens and did not rule out further action in elsewhere in Ukraine.
"We will keep all our options open," he said.
Secretary of State John Kerry, meanwhile, has arrived in the capital of Kiev to work on a solution.
