Russia Marks 68th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany

Sasha Mordovets/Getty Images(MOSCOW) -- Russians celebrated Victory Day on Thursday, marking the 68th anniversary of the triumph over Nazi Germany.

The Soviet Union was the country hardest hit during World War II.  Nearly 24 million of its people were killed during the war.

Russians still mark the day with military parades and tributes to the dwindling number of veterans.

At the massive military parade in Moscow Thursday, columns of tanks and missiles rumbled along the route followed by rows of marching troops. Fighter jets also streaked across the sky.
