(MOSCOW) -- Russia is supporting a call to investigate the latest alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria.
Secretary of State John Kerry called Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Thursday night to talk about Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.
According to the statement, there was “general agreement” between the two that United Nations inspectors, already in Syria to investigate an alleged chemical weapons attack near Aleppo, should also be allowed to investigate this latest claim of chemical weapons use near Damascus.
The statement reiterates a call for the Syrian government to cooperate and calls on the Syrian opposition to provide “safe access” to the site of this week’s alleged attack.
