Bill Ingalls/NASA via Getty Images(MOSCOW) -- The Olympic torch for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia has taken its first spacewalk.

Two Russian cosmonauts carried an unlit version of the torch outside the international space station on Saturday. They said their goal was to take photographs of the torch in space to help promote the games.

On Monday, the torch will return to Kazakhstan. It will then continue its journey towards Sochi, where the Olympics are set to begin on Feb. 7.
