Syrian Regime Uncovers Mysterious Mass Grave

KARIM SAHIB/AFP/Getty Images(DAMASCUS, Syria) -- This past weekend, the Syrian regime followed through with its threats to deal a heavy blow to a town in the north where it claims over 120 of its security forces were killed last week.

After entering Jisr al-Shughour with tanks and helicopter gunships hovering above, the regime on Monday said it made a grim discovery of the remains of its men.  Syrian State TV is broadcasting images of a mass grave discovered in the town which is now at the center of two competing narratives about what exactly happened.

The regime says the mutilated bodies of soldiers are the work of "armed gangs."  But residents who fled and other refugees say those bodies are proof of the first significant mutiny by soldiers in Syria's uprising.  The soldiers, they say, were killed by their commanders for switching sides and joining the protesters.
