(LONDON) -- After a series of arrests organized by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, nine men have been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions in the UK with terrorism offenses, say the West Midlands Police.
The men appeared Monday morning at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court where Sue Hemming, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service Counter Terrorism Division, recommended the men be charged.
"I have today advised the police that nine men should be charged with conspiracy to cause explosions and with engaging conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism with the intention of either committing acts of terrorism, or assisting another to commit such acts," Hemming said.
Hemming also said that she had reviewed the evidence provided by the West Midland Counter Terrorism Unit and is satisfied that it will make for a realistic prospect of conviction and is in the best interest of the public to charge all nine men.
