(OTEY MESA, Calif.) -- The bust of a drug-smuggling tunnel on the U.S.-Mexico border has netted about $20 million worth of marijuana.
In one of the largest tunnel-related seizures ever, the Drug Enforcement Agency seized 30 tons of marijuana from two warehouses in the United States and Mexico.
The 1,800-foot underground tunnel linked a warehouse in Otey Mesa, Calif., to a similar building in Tijuana, Mexico. DEA officials said Thursday that they believe the tunnel had been completed recently and may have been in operation for about a month.
The bust comes just two days after California voters shot down a proposition to legalize the personal use of the drug.
