Prince Phillip Released from Hospital After Five Days

Paul Edwards - WPA Pool/Getty Images(LONDON) -- Prince Philip has rejoined the royal family after being hospitalized for a recurrence of the bladder infection he suffered earlier this summer.

The Duke of Edinburgh was released from the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen, Scotland, on Monday after five days of treatment.

Buckingham Palace said the prince was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday as “as a precautionary measure.”  The hospitalization stemmed from a bladder infection the 91-year-old suffered in June during Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Duke of Edinburgh, 90, Hospitalized with Bladder Infection

WPA Pool/Getty Images(LONDON) -- Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, has been taken to the hospital to be treated for a bladder infection. He will miss Monday’s Diamond Jubilee Concert, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

"Prince Philip will remain in hospital under observation for a few days,” the Palace said in announcing the news.

"He is, understandably, disappointed about missing this evening's Diamond Jubilee Concert and tomorrow's engagements."

The concert is one of a series of events celebrating the queen’s 60 years on the throne, the second-longest reign in U.K. history.

Prince Philip, whose 91st birthday is this Sunday, was hospitalized last December due to chest pains. The palace said Philip was treated for a blocked coronary artery and a successful “invasive procedure of coronary stenting” was performed.

Philip, the duke of Edinburgh, married Prince Elizabeth in 1947. She took the throne as queen six years later.
