(NEW YORK) -- China denied allegations that its J-20 stealth fighter jet had been developed using technology from a downed United States plane.
According to a claim from military officials in the Balkans, parts of a F-117 Nighthawk were allegedly purchased from farmers who discovered the pieces during a wreckage.
The Nighthawk referred to in the claim was downed by a Servian anti-aircraft missile in March 1999. The pilot was ejected and rescued.
China's Ministry of National Defense has refuted the claim, saying the J-20 is a product of Chinese innovation.
The twin-engine plane has drawn international attention for its military advances. It made its first public test flight two weeks ago during U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates' trip to China.
