(LONDON) -- A large fish processing ship is on fire in the Atlantic, some 230 miles off the southwestern top of England, according to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Of the 111 people onboard the Athena, 81 have been evacuated onto lifeboats, while 30 remain on the vessel.
Coastguard spokesman Fred Caygill says a nearby ship is assisting. "The guys are in liferafts bobbing on the ocean and the merchant vessel, which is obviously a very large vessel compared to a 25-man liferaft, is doing their utmost to rescue these people from those liferafts," he says.
A rescue helicopter remains on stand-by.
The Falmouth Coastguard were alerted of the fire shortly after 6:00 a.m. local time on Wednesday. No injuries have been reported.
