(KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia) -- At least 16 people were dead after landslides hit an orphanage in Malaysia on Saturday.
Officials say heavy rainfall is likely the cause of the landslides which occurred on Saturday afternoon at the orphanage located in the district of Hulu Langat. Twenty-four people were buried after the land gave way, however, only nine of them managed to make it out alive, according to published reports. Of those killed, the majority are said to be children.
The survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment; however, the extent of their injuries is unknown.
