Ruby the Heartbreaker: The Teen Temptress Behind Italy's Big Scandal

Photo Courtesy - Governo[dot])it(ROME) -- When Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi appears in court this spring to defend himself against charges that he paid to have sex with a minor, the prosecution's star witness will be an 18-year-old Moroccan girl with a tantalizing monicker -- Ruby the Heartbreaker.

Ruby may also be a career breaker.

Berlusconi, who at 74 is one of Italy's richest men and certainly one of the most flamboyant, is trying to live up to his nickname of Il Cavalieri.

"I am not worried in the least," the prime minister said Wednesday.

Ruby doesn't seem too worried either and appears to be basking in the spotlight. According to Britain's Daily Mail, she is planning to pen a book about her relationship with the prime minister.

What is known of her story so far includes being a runaway who danced in nightclubs before she emerged at the center of Italy's biggest scandal in a generation. The story is studded with stories of being a relative to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, an arrest for theft, and lavish "bunga bunga" parties with a naked prime minister.

Karima el-Mahroug, also known as Karima Keyek, but best known as Ruby the Heartbreaker, is now 18.

But she told prosecutors in Milan last year that the prime minister showered her with thousands of dollars worth of cash and jewelry and invited her to two sex parties at a time when she was only 17.

For all of the lurid allegations Ruby has made, she has consistently denied that she ever had sex with Berlusconi. In interviews with the media and investigators Ruby has said the only money she ever received from the prime minister were gifts to help her out financially and not money for sexual favors.

She also admits she lied about her age, telling the prime minister she was 24.

"He knew that I was 24 years old because I told everyone that I was 24 years old," Ruby told Italian news station Sky TG24. "I didn't want people to know that I was a minor."

Italian PM Investigated for Sex with Teenager

Photo Courtesy - Governo [dot] it(ROME) -- Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has come under investigation for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old prostitute and then abusing his cover up his involvement. Prosecutors have requested the 74-year-old Berlusoni appear before them later this month and said they would ask for a fast track trial.

The flamboyant prime minister, a billionaire businessman who has managed to evade previous accusations of sexual and financial impropriety, is accused of paying teen prostitute Karima el-Mahroug, better known as Ruby the Heart Stealer, for sex parties he held last year at his Milan villa.

Berlusconi's relationship with Ruby became public last year, when it emerged that the prime minister had intervened when police arrested her for theft. Berlusconi is accused of calling the Milanese police in March and sending Nicole Minetti, a former showgirl who represents Berlusconi's party in parliament, to intervene. Minetti is also under investigation. Berlusconi reportedly told the police Ruby was the niece of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.

The investigation is focused in part on whether Berlusconi intervened in order to keep secret the fact that he had been Ruby's client and that she was 17.

The scandal, considered tawdry even by Italian standards, has further weakened the prime minister, who lost his latest battle to protect himself from prosecution Thursday when the Italian high court struck down a law that had shielded him from trial in three unrelated corruption cases.

Berlusconi is no stranger from the front pages of the world's tabloids. In 2009, his wife called him "shameless" and filed for divorce after a series of allegations that he had sex with prostitutes and had attended the birthday party of an 18-year-old model.

Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi Accused by Teen of Hosting 'Bunga Bunga' Orgy

Photo Courtesy - (Governo[dot])it(ROME) -- After years of accusations, the hard-to-embarass Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi may finally be embroiled in a sex scandal so provocative, he can't simply smile his way out of it.

After surviving one sex scandal last year, for which his wife called him "shameless" and filed for divorce, Berlusconi now stands accused by a 17-year-old prostitute of organizing a ritual Libyan orgy called a "bunga bunga" that included 20 naked women at his villa in Milan.

Karima el-Mahroug, also known as Karima Keyek, but best known as Ruby the Heartbreaker, recently told Milanese prosecutors that the prime minister had showered her with over $1,300 worth of cash and jewelry and invited her to two sex parties, including the bunga bunga.

Ruby, now 18, described bunga bunga as a kind of orgy that she claims Berlusconi learned about from Libyan dictator Muammar Kaddafi. At the orgy, she said, Berlusconi was naked and surrounded by some 20 nude women, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

The Moroccan girl denies having sex with the prime minister.

The age of consent in Italy is 14, and it is unlikely that Berlusconi will face any legal charges, but already the premier's carefully constructed political alliance is beginning to crack.

Berlusconi, 74, is the third richest man in Italy and the country's longest serving prime minister in modern history. He has long gotten away with accusations of extramarital dalliances with little more than a shrug from his constituents and allies.
