(MARDAN, Pakistan) -- A boy disguised as a student blew himself up at a military base in Pakistan Thursday, killing at least 27 service members.
According to a senior military official, a boy most likely between 10 and 12 years old walked into the base in Mardan and set off the bomb amongst a group of soldiers as they exercised.
The base has a school with civilian students, and the military said the suicide bomber walked in among those students before classes began.
The Taliban, however, claimed a different story. They said the bomber was an active duty soldier who volunteered for the mission. The military said that is incorrect.
Thursday's fatalities mark the single worst day for the Pakistani military in at least three years.
