NOEL CELIS/AFP/Getty Images(MANILA, Philippines) -- At least eight people were killed, as Typhoon Nanmadol hit parts of the Philippines over the weekend.

Among those killed, were two children, who were fatally injured Saturday when a garbage tip wall reportedly collapsed in the city of Baguio, according to a report by BBC News.

The weather system, which is also known as Typhoon Mina locally, has affected over 29,500 people in various parts of the Philippines, officials say. Several homes were reportedly damaged and government officials say 44 evacuation centers were set up in affected areas, with over 7,900 people checking into those centers. Affected individuals are also being assisted in the form of relief goods released by the Philippines government.

Forecasters say Typhoon Nanmadol is expected to hit the eastern part of Taiwan on Monday.
