Dozens Dead, Injured After Suicide Bombing at Pakistani Funeral

USGS [dot] gov(PESHAWAR, Pakistan) -- At least 35 people are dead and several more injured after a suicide bombing at a funeral in Pakistan Wednesday, according to police.

The explosion took place in Adezai, on the outskirts of Peshawar, while a funeral for the wife of a peace commitee leader was taking place.

Pakistani peace committees serve a policing role and conduct anti-militant operations in their respective areas.  They are often targeted by militants.

Rescue operations by local officials are underway.

Five Killed, Several Wounded in Bomb Attacks on Police in Pakistan

Photo Courtesy - Hasham Ahmed/AFP/Getty Images(PESHAWAR, Pakistan) -- Two attacks on police in Pakistan Monday left five people dead, including four police officers, and several others wounded.

In the first attack, a suicide bomber blew himself up next to a police officer's vehicle as it was passing through an intersection in Peshawar.  The blast killed the bomber and three police officers on the spot, and left more than 10 bystanders injured.

The second attack, which happened a few hours later in Peshawar as well, involved a remote bomb that went off near a police patrol vehicle, killing one police officer and wounding three others.  This latest attack happened as police were searching for those involved in the first attack.
