Kate and Pippa Middleton Surprise Shoppers at Charity Event

LEON NEAL/AFP/GettyImages(LONDON) -- It was a girls' night out for sisters Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton in London Wednesday as the high-profile pair caught up with each other at a charity shopping event.

Fellow shoppers at the Burlington Arcade Charity Christmas Bazaar were caught off guard when the Duchess of Cambridge and her younger sister showed up to support the event and quickly posted photos of the pair on Twitter to prove their proximity to the royal and royal-in-law.

"Kate and Pippa Middleton spotted at @BurlingtonArcad @CountryTown #BurlingtonBazaar," wrote @ClaireGongMuse.

"Feeling festive with Courvoisier cocktails @BurlingtonArcad in good company of Kate Middleton & Lupo," posted @CourvoisierUK.

Lupo would be the black cocker spaniel puppy Kate Middleton reportedly received as a 30th birthday gift earlier this year from her husband, Prince William, and it was he who proved to be the real surprise guest of the evening, and the only exception to the apparent "girls only" rule.

The duchess, 30, arrived to the event dressed for the cold weather in dark jeans, a brown jacket and black suede boots and with Lupo and her royal protection officer in tow. Pippa Middleton, 29, arrived a bit later, on her own, also in jeans but paired with a blue leather jacket, printed scarf and black knee-high boots.

The roughly $30 admission fee to the event benefited the Ormiston Children and Families Trust, a charity for disadvantaged youth in the East of England.

The Wednesday night sighting marked the first time the two sisters have been seen at a public event together since June, according to British media reports. Both sisters attended the wedding of a close friend of Pippa's near their childhood hometown in late September.

Kate Middleton also attended that event stag, without William, who was, as he was presumed to be Wednesday night also, fulfilling his duties as a search-and-rescue pilot with the Royal Air Force.

Pippa Middleton has been busy since then making appearances and headlines of her own with the publication of her debut book, the party planning guide Celebrate.

Pippa Middleton Steals Spotlight from Bride, Again

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LONDON) -- Everyday brides-to-be stressing over the planning of their upcoming weddings can be grateful for at least one thing: not having to include Pippa Middleton on their guest list.

The royal sister-in-law stole the show from the bride once again, this time at the weekend wedding of her close friend, Camilla Hook, 28, and her husband Sam Holland, 27.  Although the bride entered the Scottish chapel where the ceremony took place dressed in an elegant lace dress, according to British media, the cameras were turned instead to Middleton, 28, dressed in a low-cut raspberry wrap dress, floral fascinator and black suede heels.

The moment brought back memories of a year ago when Middleton stole the show as a bridesmaid at the royal wedding of her older sister, Kate Middleton, to Prince William.  It was then that Pippa Middleton’s walk down the aisle in a form-fitting dress earned her the moniker “Her Royal Hotness.”

Middleton, reportedly at the wedding with a female friend and her parents, this time stole a fashion page from her big sister.  Middleton’s raspberry wrap dress by designer Issa was the same Forever wrap dress that Kate wore when she and Prince William announced their engagement at Buckingham Palace in 2010.

The only difference is that Kate’s dress, which sold out in hours after her appearance, was sapphire-colored to match her sapphire engagement ring.

Although Pippa Middleton stole the headlines from the bride once again, all might be forgiven because Middleton, whose family owns a party-planning business, reportedly played a big role in helping Hook plan her big day.

Scotland’s STV reported that Middleton had been collaborating with Hooks on the event for weeks, including using her “industry resources” to make sure the ceremony and reception, both held in East Lothian, England, went off “without a hitch.”

Pippa Middleton’s Party Host Apologizes for Gun ‘Joke’

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(PARIS) -- The French aristocrat who hosted Pippa Middleton for a wild weekend in Paris that ended with the royal sister-in-law embroiled in a gun photo scandal has apologized.

Arthur de Soultrait issued a public apology to Middleton, 28, the sister-in-law of England’s Prince William.  He described the incident, in which Middleton was snapped laughing as a male companion in a car pointed a gun at a photographer following them in Paris, as a “joke.”

“Last Saturday, I was in a car with Philippa Middleton, and we were being followed by paparazzi,” read the statement from De Soultrait, a fashion label owner, released Wednesday in Paris, according to People magazine.

“She had been subject to constant and dangerous harassment by paparazzi throughout her time in Paris.  The car was being driven by a friend of mine, whom Pippa had only met a few hours before.  As a joke, my friend brandished a toy pistol in their direction,” he wrote.  “Obviously Philippa had no idea that he was going to do that and told him to stop immediately.  She did not find it funny.”

De Soultrait, 30, and Middleton were both passengers in the Audi convertible driven by De Soultrait’s friend, later identified as French criminal lawyer Romain Rabillard, 36, when he allegedly reached for what appeared to be a semi-automatic gun and jokingly aimed it at a paparazzi following them, London newspaper The Sun reported.

The widely-released image, showing Middleton, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, grinning as Rabillard aims the gun, thrust the popular royal-in-law into unwanted headlines and fueled rumors she could face criminal charges under France’s strict gun laws.

The drama proved overblown, however, when the photographer later said he knew all along the gun was a fake and never filed a police complaint.  Paris police also confirmed they are not investigating the incident.

“I regret enormously that this incident happened, and especially that Pippa has been subject to the subsequent attention through no fault of her own.  I have apologized to her for this,” de Soultrait said.

Pippa Middleton Photo Gun a Fake?

ABC News(LONDON) -- Photos of Pippa Middleton have made the sister-in-law of England's presumptive future king a worldwide sensation, but nothing quite like the shot this weekend when she was snapped laughing as a male companion in a car pointed a gun at a photographer following them in Paris.

Middleton, 28, was in the passenger seat of an Audi convertible with three male friends Sunday when the driver allegedly reached for a what appeared to be a semi-automatic gun and jokingly aimed it at a paparazzi following them, London newspaper The Sun reported.

The image shows Middleton, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, looking back at the paparazzo and grinning as her friend, the driver, reaches down and aims what appears to be the gun.

But now it appears that the excitement, which included reports that Pippa Middleton could face criminal charges, may have been overblown.

ABC News has learned that the photographer says he knew all along the gun was a fake and has been telling people he never felt scared. Even friends of one of the young fashionistas in the car told ABC News Monday that they have the toy gun in their possession.

The Sun had reported that the Paris Judicial Police department is "poised" to launch a probe into the incident, but police told ABC News that there is no investigation, because no one has filed a complaint.

Middleton was reportedly in Paris to attend a costume birthday party at the Chez Raspoutine as a guest of fashion label owner Arthur de Soultrait, also a passenger in the car when the gun incident occurred.

"Pippa is a party girl. She mixes now in very high society and they don't come very higher than this group of French aristocratic sons," the Sun's royal editor, Duncan Larcombe, said of the three men Middleton was photographed with.

Even if the flap blows over, it is a rare misstep for Middleton, who was dubbed "Her Royal Hotness" and became a target of paparazzi after she wowed onlookers as a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding to Prince William last April.

It was revealed in January that lawyers for Middleton sent a cease-and-desist letter around to six media agencies that distribute paparazzi photographs worldwide. The letter was said to warn the agencies that unless their photographers stop following Middleton, she will pursue legal action, which could include an injunction and legal costs.

Just prior to the letter being sent, the picture editor for U.K.'s Daily Mail newspaper reported that 400 photographs of Middleton cross his desk every single day.

Middleton, who lives in London and works for her family's party-planning business, was last said to be back in a serious romance with her old flame, George Percy, an heir to the Duke of Northumberland, one of Britain's grandest and richest titles.

"Pippa has been photographed; she's been coached on how to behave," Larcombe said. "If she's photographed by an unwanted freelance photographer, she smiles, she keeps her head up and she lets the lawyers doing the arguing behind the scenes. She knows much better than this."

Buckingham Palace said it would not comment on the incident, since it does not officially represent Middleton because she is not a member of the royal family.

"I think often by what they're not saying can often say more and I think there are some very nervous people behind the scenes right now," Larcombe said.

"I think, in fairness to her [Pippa], it will be interesting to know whether she told this guy off after he'd done something as stupid as this or whether she thinks it was all a big joke because in the pictures, unfortunately for her, it does look as though she found the funny side of it," he said.

Pippa Middleton Caught in Gun-Wielding Scandal

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LONDON) -- Pippa Middleton, the sister-in-law of England's presumptive future king, could face criminal charges after a male companion was reportedly caught brandishing a gun and allegedly pointing it at a photographer following the pair in Paris.

Middleton, 27, was in the passenger seat of an Audi convertible with three male friends Sunday when the driver allegedly reached for a semi-automatic gun and jokingly aimed it at a paparazzi following them, London newspaper The Sun reported.

The image, released to the Sun by the French photographer at whom the pistol was aimed, shows Middleton, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, looking back at the paparazzo and grinning as her friend, the driver, reaches down and aims the gun.

The paper reported that the Paris Judicial Police department is "poised" to launch a probe into the incident.  Charges could result in prison sentences of up to seven years for all four people in the car, or a two-year sentence if the gun turns out to be a fake, a source told the Sun.

"If the evidence points to her involvement, she will be prosecuted.  Anybody involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public is liable to arrest and interrogation," the source said.

The French photographer is still weighing whether to file a formal police complaint, the Sun's royal editor, Duncan Larcombe, confirmed Monday on ABC's Good Morning America.

"We're told he isn't ruling anything out yet," Larcombe said.

Middleton was reportedly in Paris to attend a costume birthday party at the Chez Raspoutine as a guest of fashion label owner Arthur de Soultrait Pari.

The gaffe is a rare misstep for Middleton, who was dubbed "Her Royal Hotness" and became a target of paparazzi after she wowed onlookers as a bridesmaid at her sister's wedding to Prince William last April.

Buckingham Palace, which does not officially represent Middleton because she is not a member of the royal family, has not commented on the incident.

"I think often by what they're not saying can often say more and I think there are some very nervous people behind the scenes right now," Larcombe said.

Pippa Middleton Takes Legal Action Against Paparazzi: Report

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LONDON) -- In the eight months since Pippa Middleton stole the scene as maid of honor at sister Kate’s royal wedding to Prince William, she has been named one of the most photographed women in the world and dubbed “her Royal Hotness” by British tabloids.

Now the 28-year-old royal sister-in-law is said to be so royally hot over the media attention that she’s taking legal action.

The U.K.’s Daily Mail reports lawyers for Middleton this week sent a cease-and-desist letter to around six media agencies that distribute paparazzi photographs worldwide.

The letter is said to warn the agencies that unless their photographers stop following Middleton she will pursue legal action, which could include an injunction and legal costs.

Last week, the Daily Mail’s picture editor, Paul Silva, reported that 400 photographs of Middleton cross his desk every single day.

He also estimated that Middleton, who lives in London and works for her family’s party planning business, typically has eight or nine photographers camped outside her door ready to snap her every move.

The letter is said to describe Middleton as being in “serious distress and anxiety” over the attention.

The legal backing for Middleton’s request appears to come from a section of the Protection From Harassment Act 1997 that was enacted in England shortly before the death of Princess Diana, who was known as “the most photographed woman in the world” and who died in a car crash while being chased by paparazzi.

The letter cites Section 1 of the law that says “a person must not pursue a course of conduct which amounts to harassment of another and which he knows or ought to know amounts to harassment of the other,” according to the Mail.

Britain’s Royal Family Prepares for Biggest Christmas in Years

Hemera/Thinkstock(LONDON) -- It may be the most wonderful time of year, but for the newest royal, Kate Middleton, it is also the busiest.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been out and about this week, as she prepares to spend her first Christmas with Britain’s royal family. All eyes were on her at the Sun Military Awards in London on Monday night as she stood beside her husband, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge. Just hours earlier, the couple attended a more traditional Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace. It all leads up to the big Christmas weekend.

In keeping with tradition, the royal family will gather at Sandringham house, a country estate that sits on 20,000 acres of land in Eastern England. The festivities begin with high tea on Christmas Eve, followed by a formal dinner and the official opening of gifts.

It is said that 27 royals are expected to gather for the holiday weekend. It reportedly would be the biggest British royal Christmas gathering in years.

People magazine has reported that the Queen has invited Kate’s younger sister Pippa, 27, to join the family for their traditional Boxing Day pheasant shoot on Dec. 26, an event normally reserved for royals only. And a source told US magazine that Kate, William and Pippa, “will all travel together back to Bucklebury and spend the remaining days of Christmas with the other Middleton family members,” following their attendance at the Boxing Day shoot.

Adding to the holiday buzz surrounding the couple is growing speculation that Middleton is pregnant with the couple’s first child. The rumors have swirled since she first refused to eat a product containing peanuts -- which is considered off-limits for expectant mothers -- at a charity event in Denmark, and then appeared to conspicuously hide her belly with her purse while attending a charity concert earlier this month.

Pippa Middleton Signs Deal for Party Planning Book

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LONDON) -- She stole the show at the royal party of the century, and now Pippa Middleton has signed on to tell the masses how to throw a party of their own worth stealing.

Middleton, 28, became a household name last April when she famously walked down the aisle of Westminster Abbey in a form-fitting dress as maid of honor in older sister Kate’s lavish wedding to Prince William.

Now the royal-in-law is back to capitalize on her party prowess with a new book that promises to help even commoners throw a party worthy of a royal.

The Daily Mail reports Middleton has struck a £400,000 ($622,000) deal with U.K. publisher Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin, to write How to Be the Perfect Party Hostess.

Plans are for a Christmas 2012 release, in part to avoid any conflict with the queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations next summer.

The how-to guide will reportedly include recipes, and personal pointers anecdotes from Middleton herself.

Besides her royal connections, Middleton is well steeped in party planning. She has professional party-planning experience with London-based Table Talk, and she comes from a family of party-planning experts.

Her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, own the U.K. online party supply company Party Pieces, and Middleton contributes to the company’s Party Times online newsletter.

Middleton fans, eager for an early taste of her book, might want to look to her most recent Party Times article: 10 Tips for a Perfect Family Christmas.

In addition to her No. 1 tip that underlines the importance of “making a good first impression,” the royal-in-law’s suggestions range from the timeless -- baking holiday cookies and creating a Scandinavian gingerbread house -- to the modern, such as doing your Christmas shopping online.

“Have guests met by a beautiful red berry wreath and windows decorated with silver snowflake cutouts, reindeers and Christmas trees using snow spray,” she writes in the magazine’s November issue. "At this time of year, everything seems to gleam, so fill your house with lots of tiny lights, such as green Christmas fairy lights.”

Who the newly single Middleton will invite to her Christmas parties remains a mystery. The highly desired bachelorette split from Alex Loudon, her longtime beau and royal wedding escort, earlier this month.

She set British tabloids ablaze again when she was spotted with a mystery man last weekend watching the final of the ATP World Tour tennis tournament at the O2 in London.

They were joined by another male friend to watch a match between Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, reported the Daily Mail.

Pippa Middleton: England’s Most Eligible Woman?

Chris Jackson/Getty Images(LONDON) -- When Kate Middleton stands at the altar of Westminster Abbey April 29, little sister Pippa will be by her side, as she so often is.

But Middleton's maid of honor has a slightly different reputation from her sister. "Pippa has a reputation as being the really fun one, slightly louder and more outgoing than Kate," Tatler magazine editor Catherine Ostler said. "Possibly slightly naughtier."

"To a certain section of British men, she's become the most eligible girl in England," Ostler said. "At parties, people are always terribly keen on talking to Pippa. And she has a magnetic effect on men."

But she's taken. The youngest Middleton sister is dating a young English gent: a square-jawed, well-heeled pro cricketer-turned-businessman.

"She's a Chelsea party girl, almost to the extreme," Ostler said.

It is her job, after all. Pippa Middleton, 27, launched The Party Times, an online party magazine.

Pippa Middleton (short for Philippa) is in the thick of the royal posse. She is often photographed with the young royal set: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Prince Harry's on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

What's unclear is whether the queen will bestow a title on her after her sister marries a prince.

For now, though, she's a dedicated maid of honor. She's also apparently her big sister's gym buddy, as they both get in shape for the big day.
