(WIMBLEDON, England) -- Tennis fans who tuned in to the Wimbledon women’s final Saturday witnessed a major upset, as Petra Kvitova defeated Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4, to take the title back to the Czech Republic.
The 21-year-old Kvitova played with confidence throughout the match, delivering solid service and returns against the more experienced Sharapova.
Kvitova delivered the final nail in the coffin in the form of an ace, to knock off Sharapova in straight sets and win her first Grand Slam title.
Kvitova came into the match as a long shot, but left as the first left-handed player to win the women’s title since 1990, when Martina Navratilova won it.
