(MOSCOW) -- Russia is witnessing one of its largest political demonstrations in recent memory this weekend as thousands take to the streets in protest of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his party.
Putin's United Party narrowly won the majority in last weekend's parliamentary elections, stirring up rumors of election fraud. The former president is himself expected to seek a third term in office in a few months.
Saturday's protests could prove a more accurate barometer for everyday Russian citizens' opinion of the government. Protests in the tens-of-thousands are typically not permitted, and the state-run television depicts Putin as a beloved leader.
