(KABUL, Afghanistan) -- The office of French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced on Friday the death of a French soldier who was killed during an operation in Afghanistan.
The French soldier was wounded Thursday during a firefight in the Uzbeen Valley, northeast of Kabul. He was taken to a hospital in Kabul where he died of his wounds. The soldier belonged to the 126th regiment of infantry based in the French commune Brive.
Another soldier was also wounded during the same operation.
This is the 50th death of a French soldier in Afghanistan since 2001.
