(DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan) -- Taliban militants freed 248 prisoners during an attack on a prison in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan on Tuesday, the BBC reports.
Up to 100 militants blasted down the jail walls with automatic weapons, grenades, and bombs. At least 13 people died. The gunfire lasted three to four hours.
According to the BBC, while no high-profile Taliban members were being held at this prison, at least 30 of the freed prisoners were described as "hardened" Taliban fighters by authorities.
The attack falls on the same day as Pakistan's presidential election.
