Thousands Protest in Hong Kong Over Gov't Ruling on TV Network Licensing

aaron tam/AFP/Getty Images(HONG KONG) -- Over 21,000 people took to the streets in Hong Kong on Sunday to protest the government's decision not to give a free-to-air licence to a new TV station.

The new free station, called Hong Kong Television Network, invested in broadcasting high-quality programming.

The network was denied a license last week, and on Sunday, protestors voiced their concerns that the decision was made to suppress the public and grant more industry control to the government.

The reason behind the government's decision has not been released to the public.
