Three Arrested American Exchange Students Return Home from Cairo

ABC News(CAIRO) -- The three American exchange students who were arrested Tuesday in Cairo on suspicion of throwing Molotov cocktails have returned to the United States.

Derrik Sweeney, Luke Gates and Gregory Porter are back on American soil after they were accused of tossing firebombs from the roof of a campus building overlooking Tahrir square during a rally.

Gates arrived home to Indianapolis, thanking the general consulate in Cairo for his release. Sweeney arrived in St. Louis and said the first night after he was arrested was the scariest night of his life. Porter arrived in Philadelphia and said he was thankful to be back and was grateful for the help he received from U.S. and Egyptian officials.

A spokesperson for American University in Cairo confirmed Tuesday that the students being detained were Sweeney, of Georgetown University; Porter, of Drexel University; and Gates of Indiana University.
