(MOMBASA, Kenya) -- A pair of explosions in Mombasa killed three people on Saturday and left many more injured.
The Kenyan Interior Ministry said that the first explosion occurred when a grenade was thrown into a bus in the Mwembe Tayari section of the city. That explosion resulted in all three of the fatalities.
A second explosion was reported at the Reef Hotel in the Nyali Beach area. The CEO of Heritage Hotels Kenya posted tweeted that the hotel is "intact" and all guests are believed to be safe.
The U.S. State Department urged Americans to avoid travel to Mombasa if possible, and that those already in Mombasa should remain sheltered and avoid unnecessary travel.
