UN Chemical Weapons Investigations Team Shot at in Syria

Photo by Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images(DAMASCUS, Syria) -- Members of a United Nations Chemical Weapons Investigations team sent to Syria to investigate the site of an alleged chemical weapon attack last week were shot at by snipers on Monday.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson for Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, one of the vehicles the team was traveling in was "deliberately shot at multiple times by unidentified snipers."

The incident occurred in the buffer zone. The car was not serviceable following the attack, so the team returned to a government checkpoint and replaced the vehicle.
