(MOSCOW) -- Russia is warning it may retaliate for the latest round of sanctions imposed by the Obama administration.
President Vladimir Putin suggested the sanctions may only impact United States companies that do business in Russia. He pointed to American energy companies like ExxonMobil that have signed major oil exploration deals with Rosneft, the Russian energy giant that was sanctioned on Wednesday.
According to the Financial Times, a senior Moscow banker fears that the Russians will start hurting American companies, possibly by denying visas and blocking deals. But, the sanctions are expected to be tough on the Russian banks and companies that were named.
Russia's stock market and currency all dropped after the sanctions.
